If you are thinking of coming to Yorkshire looking for Ibbitsons you may be dissappointed. Here in the U.K. it is a very rare name I have only ever encountered one other Ibbitson and my father, Fred Ibbitson b.1924 Yeadon, Yorkshire, d.2002, only encountered one other in his entire life, not including his father of course! Ibbotson , however, is far more common and seems to be, in this country at least, to be the preferred spelling of the same name. It seems a great deal of Ibbitsons emigrated to Canada and left us British Ibbitsons feeling rather isolated.
