i was looking for "james habel" as well, and think i came up with a match. there's a "michigan death" record on ancestry.com:
Name: James Habel
Birth Date: 11 Aug 1942
Death Date: 23 Jan 1980
Gender: Male
Residence: Detroit, Wayne, Michigan
Place of Death: Detroit, Wayne, Michigan
The James Habel I was looking for was also born near Detroit and served in the U.S. Army. This is my mom's cousin, and their common ancestor was half polish half german - but i think he would have been a couple of years older than your James Habel...
