I agree with what you said - this is history. So let me tell you what I remember of the story. I am still on vacation - I do know that the Marietta Times ran a story on the deaths. If you would like a copy of that, I would not be able to do that until after July 25. I told you that this was Nicholas's 2nd marriage. I believe I am mistaken - I believe it to be his 3rd. He was married to a Wilimena Becker. They had about 6 or 8 children. He was married a second time - and divoursed. Then there was the marriage to Mary. Nicholas was a business man. Mary had a grown son who played into this also. The night of their deaths - they were at a farm of Nicholas's. The farm had two houses. He and Mary were staying in one - while his grown children stayed at the other. That night, the children went to church except for one daughter who was not feeling well. Nicholas and Mary argued. Supposedly about money that Nicholas felt that Mary's son and Mary had cheated Nicholas out of. Nicholas ended up slitting Mary's throat. Realizing what he'd done - he went and asked his daughter for powder and shot for his gun. After giving it to her father - she asked why. He told her what he had done - and realizing he'd be hung for it - was going to shot himself. The daughter could not stop her father - so she ran to the church to get her brothers. By the time they got to their father's house - the deed was done. He had put the end of the rifle in his mouth and used the ramming rod to push the trigger. He had left a note - which had a rough translation - since it was written in old German. Not a very pretty story - but this was what I discovered of it. Meanwhile, there is a story about this son also - concerning a death or some questionalble action that happened later - after the above deaths. Let me know if I can help you any further.
