It is pretty tempting to say that the HAAG's come from the Netherlands and the city Den Haag in particular.

On the other hand it is true that elder records on HAAG's - around 1600 - most often locate these individuals in Germany (Saarland, Baden-Württemberg, and Rheinland-Pfalz federal states), France (Alsace, and Lorraine regions) and Luxembourg. Maybe all these lines really and unrecordedly came further back from the Netherlands. We might never get to know deeper. We know for sure lots went to the USA! :)

You may want to check my database to spot your HAAG. Plenty of them are from France and Germany. None from the Netherlands that i know of, yet.
