Hello . I am just starting to explore the Gadbois name through the internet. Yes Dennis and everyone, It is true we are all descendants of Joseph Vandendaique. And the name did change to Gadbois. But further down the line.
I am a direct desendant of John Gadbois (messina NY), that line. And i remember my grandfather Henry Lot of (glenevis AB) explaining the name changed to Gatebois, later Gadbois, by what Joesphs Vandendiaque descendant did, ie caprenter/lumberjack.....They couldn't spell vandendaique so they wrote what he did. We were always told that the name changed when Joesphs descendants came to the USA. thus the french spelling. Messina NY (french community)
I would be happy help anyway in searches. Also, if any direct desendants of JOHN and father John of Messina NY. Please post. thnks
