I also am a descendent of Joseph or Josse from Belgium through a line of Vandandaique, Vandandaigue and other assorted spellings with dits of Gadbois, Gatebois, Gadbaw, etc. etc. The early Canadian history of the family can be found in Tanguay's Genealogy and Jette's Dict. Geneal. des Familles du Quebec, both of which can be found at or ordered in microfiche at a nearby Family History Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the same time, many of the names in a variety of spellings can be found on the International Genealogical Index or Ancestral File at a Family History Center or at the internet site <http://www.familysearch.org> using the Custom Search button. My line came to Northern New York early 1800's as Gadbois, my direct married a St. Peter and moved to Minnesota sometime 1850's or 60's, with or had 11 or 12 children, one daughter married my great-grandfather. Some of the Vandandiaques (Gadbois) lived in Indian Land prior to their descendants moving to the U.S. so it is likely that some of the women I have not been able to find could be Indians given French names. The use of dits makes searching sometimes rather difficult.

Good luck with your search.
