I was interested in your summary of the Vandandaigue-Gadbois family in Glengarry Co. I am descended from Francis V.D.-Gadbois through the Hamel(Amell)/ Leroux(Roux dit Vadeboncoeur/Larue)/ Lavigne dit Tessier families of Glengarry and Stormont Cos.
Can you tell me anything more about the Indian lineage in the Gadbois family? Adéline Leroux -- one of my gr-grandmothers -- married Lévi-Olivier Hamel (Amell), a grand-son of Francis V.D.-Gadbois, at Lochiel, Glengarry, in 1872. Adéline was born at Hogansburg, Franklin Co., NY in 1851. Hogansburg is on the U.S. side of what is today the Akwasasne Mohawk Reserve. I have come across a number of ancestors and their kin like Adéline Leroux who have close ties with the early mission at St-Régis, but I haven't been able to determine whether they are of French or aboriginal ancestry.
