This is being posted to help any one searching the name of Gaby in TN. It is a timeline I put together to help find the parents and ancestors of my Ggrandmother Mary (Polly) Gaby, who was an orphan. I believe it shows a definite connection of the Gabys of TN to Martin Gaby and his family in PA.
I believe I have touched on all the censuses of VA NC and TN pertaining to the name Gaby and its variations. The parents of my Mary may not even be listed in these censuses. Its almost certain that her parents and siblings stopped being a family around 1845, and with the migration to places like Oregon, California, Texas, and Utah,and other points west. They could have left with great hopes and met with disaster along the way. So I do hope someone can use thes pages.
1742, May 9,
Martin Gaby was born in Germany. Martin married Susannah Price.
Their children were Isaac, Martin, Peter, Catherine, Susan, Abraham, Jacob,
Daniel, Esther, Matthias, Salomi, Solomon..Not necessarily in that order.
Ancestry World Tree at ancestry.com shows an Isaac Gaby
married to a Magdalena Fratz No Date.

the son of Isaac and Magdalena Fratz.

Martin F. Gaby (Gabe 1810PA) (Gabee 1830VA)) (Gabi1850 TN) (Gaba Marriage to Catherine Nininger.) was born. (source:He is listed in 1860 census as 63 yrs old) This could be the first son of Isaac Gaby, son of Martin Gaby sr in PA. Using a naming pattern popular at the time, Martin would be named after the father's father which would be Martin sr.
He married Catherine Nininger.on Mar 20, 1820. She is listed in the 1830 census as being 30 to 40 yrs old.

1830 to 1840. Isaac Gaby senior must have died during this period.

abt. Sept. an Isaac Gaby was born.(he died in 1914 in Washington County. From Death Abstract Records.1914-1916. His obituary said his father and mother are listed as Isaac Gaby (VA) and Martha Hibarger. (VA) This could be an older brother of Mary (Polly) Gaby. See 1850 for Mary (Polly).

Census of Washington Co. Tn shows a C.F. Gaby, 30 to 40 yrs old. His name or any record of him has never been found anywhere else in any State by this researcher. He could be the father of Mary (Polly) Gaby, born about 1838. The census of C.F. lists 1 female 0 to 5 years old, and 2 males 0 to 5 yrs old. The census of 1850 Washington Co shows 5 children living with other families. 2 of these wouldn't have been born in 1850 and the other 3 fit into these age groups of the 1840 census.

He also could be the Father of Mary (Polly) Gaby. He is listed with 2 males
O to 5 and 1 female 0 to 5. Also Males 5 to 10- 1. Females 20—30- 1. This could be his wife.

Washington County TN census 1850 shows 5 Gaby children living in the households of persons with different surname. They are:
Martin, age 13, living with Himes. Polly,age 12, living with Bowman, John, 12 living with Hunt, Elizabeth, 7 living with Rush, and Christty, living with Lineweaver. Their father could be C. F. Gaby or Isaac P. Gaby.
1850 Magdalena (Fratz) Gaby is listed in the 1850 Washington Co. census in the household of an Isaac and Sarah Eads, age 39. Magdalena is the wife of Isaac sr. of PA

who is an orphan in the 1850 TN census.
1880 Census, Greene Co. TN E. dist. 44 lists a Mary Sheets. Age 56. This is the Mary Magdalena Gaby, listed in the 1850 census as 26 yrs old. She married Martin Sheets. Her father is Martn Gaby. She was born in VA her mother and father were born in PA
