I'm at a loss. We've all been there, researching family names and the variation on the spellings of it. And thats where I am.... My G-Grandfather name was Stanley, and in his Bible, it was handwritten by him the surname of: "Dascart". In a Census of Arkansas (early 1900's) , it was listed as: "Dauskurt", and on his headstone, it was listed as: "Douskurt". (Died: 1943-45) The closest spelling of it that I have come across has been one women looking for ancestors with the spelling of: "Dauskart". The story is: Stanley, along with two sisters, ca.1900, were stow-a-ways on a ship to America. (I'm guessing that he was about the age of 20??) Sopposedly settling in the Chicago area, of Illinois. He remained here for sometime, sopposedly getting into some trouble with the law, and sopposedly mixed up with the mafia, he headed out to Arkansas. There he married, Jo Lee Elmore, and had 5 children. During their marriage, it has been told that he'd take trips back and forth to Illinois and would stay at a sisters house for a period of time, sometimes as long as 2 or 3 months, then head back to Arkansas. I'm wondering if he had two families, with the amount of time being spent in Illinois. I'm sure he loved his sisters, but to leave his family in Arkansas, for that extended amount of time...and that often??? It wouldn't have been uncommon, given the era and the lack of technology. Long story to get around to a short question..lol Do those surnames sound French? Would you happen to know of anyone with those surnames?? I'm begging for help...would love to find extended family and more history. Does this story sound familiar to any of you... Other variations of the name: Douskurt Douskart Dauskurt Dauskardt Dauskurdis Douskey Douskas Douskos Dascart Doussart Dustcart Dustkart Duskcart Duscart Duskart Duskurt Daskart Notify Administrator about this message?
