Thank you for your response regarding Christian names given to French Canadians and their descendants in the northern tier of the USA.

Re: my project. I was extracting data from the parish in Belle Prairie, Minnesota, a very small village NW of Little Falls in Central Minnesota. Little Falls is about 100 miles NNW from Minneapolis.

I have not noticed the name of the village you mentioned nor the family names you listed. "Rocky Run" is not familiar to me at all. Perhaps it either became abandoned or changed its name. I really should look it up on a map to see exactly where it is/was.

There are still several prominent French Canadian families living in Little Falls. And, some of their descendants have also loved into the St. Cloud area.

Although central Minnesota is heavily populated with descendants of German settlers, the ethnicity of the entire population somewhat overlaps as we have here a major settlement of Luxembourgers and eastern Belgians whose linguistics covered both German, French and their own Luxembourgish dialect. I have noticed that some of the French Canadian families settled nearby the Luxembourgers, and intermarried with them. The German element in central Minnesota was heavily Catholic and from the region around Trier and the Saarland, just east of Luxembourg and France. Some of the families came over with family members already intermarried with people from across these borders. It's all very interesting to me as I have a Luxembourg grandmother.

The settlement of Belle Prairie is descended from the French Canadians, while the group around St. Cloud is largely descended from Alsace-Lorraine, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Rheinland/Saarland.
