Hello Arthur, now I know who you are. My name is Joe Edward Ewell, son of Cline Fiske Ewell, son of Clinton Ewell, son of Franklin Ewell. Franklin Ewell, who was born in Wyoming, NY in 1834, married two women; Ellen Erminda Buck, whom he later divorced to marry my gGrandmother, Emma Rebecca Roberts. Franklin Ewell and Ellen Erminda Buck had a son on August 1, 1864 named Fred Dana (christened "Fred Phelps") Ewell. Fred Dana married Margaret Cady on February 16, 1886 at Chicago, IL. In late 1891/early 1892, in response to a request made by his father Franklin, Fred Dana and His Family moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, in search of an off- shoot of Franklin's gGrandfather John Ewell, whom was born in Clydesdale, Scotland, on March 4, 1734, after his father, Franklin's ggGrandfather, immigrated to Scotland in 1733, just after the baptism of his daughter Rachael, on July 1, 1733 in the township of Scituate, MA. John Jr's., birth was recorded as the name "Yule". A geneologist explained to me that the records were usually spelled by oral interpretation, which accounts for many alternative spellings of names in old geneological records. John Jr., "Yule", did not return to Scituate, MA, with his father and mother, but rather remained behind with a Yule Family having common threads to our own, howbeit, many generations removed. I believe the best way to explain this is to quote from Ervin Henry Ewell's book, "Geneology of John Ewell...Extending to the Sixth Generation", published in 1878, "John Ewell was born in Scotland, on the 4th day of March in the year 1734, but no record is found of his ancestory. John lived with his father as was the custom in those days, and shared the privileges as usual with boys of his time, and received a fair common school education. Having been encouraged by his ELDER BROTHER, with the approbation of his father, to start out in the world and see the rough sides as well as the quiet fire-side of the parental home, in the year 1751, at the early age of seventeen years, in the company with his brother Malachi, he bid a long and last farewell to his native land and parental home, and they sailed for the American continent, with a view of becoming sea-faring men, and they finally made their first stopping place at Scituate, Plymouth County, Mass. The young men, full of ambition and energy, were thown entirely upon their own resources, far from home and friends and in a strange land, amid the varied evils and snares of life. John followed the rough and boisterous life of a sea-faring man for many years with tolerable success. On the 21st day of May, 1756, at the early of 22 years, John Ewell was married to Deborah Bates, of whose birth or parentage no record is found. They lived in Scituate many years, and endured the toils and hardships of life incident to those days, both on land and at sea. John Ewell was twice married and raised nine children, of which only four had any issue, dividing the family into four branches..." John Ewell Jr., whom was born in Clydesdale, Scotland on March 4, 1734 was the actual son of John Ewell Sr., of Scituate, MA. John Jr., was adopted in Clydesdale, Scotland, by an offshoot of the Ewell/"Yule" Family. The "ELDER BROTHER" of John Ewell Jr., was his elder brother by the adopting Scotish Family, as John Ewell Jr., had only elder sisters by his real father, John Ewell Sr. John Jr., Ewell was the first born son of John Sr., Ewell, after the birth of his three elder sisters: Sarah, Elizabeth, and Rachael. The Yule Family whom adopted John Jr., Ewell had a number of children, including a boy whom was senior to John Jr. In 1751, John's adopted brother Malachi (note, John Ewell Sr., had no sons named Malachi), sailed to America, settling in Scituate, MA. John Ewell Jr., my direct ancestor, married Deborah Bates, his first wife. Deborah died on February 13, 1801 in Chesterfield, MA. John Ewell Jr., remarried on July 12, of that same year (1801), Jerusha Clapp in Easthampton, MA. John Ewell Jr., was in his mid 60's when he married Jerusha Clapp; nevertheless, he had a number of children by her. John Ewell Jr., and his second wife, Jerusha Clapp, who had a relative who married one of the "Ewell" daughters, immigrated back to Scotland, where the settled down and raised a small but influential family. One of their sons, Ninian Yule, born in 1810, married one Mary Charmichael. As I learned from someone else on the internet, their marriage took place on March 29, 1840. Ninian Yule and Mary Charmichael had a son named John Yule, who married Margaret Gilchrist. John Yule and Margaret Gilchrist had a son named Ninian Yule, whom married Elizabeth McKell. Ninian Yule and Elizabeth McKell had a son named Joseph Ninian Yule, who was born on April 30, 1892 in Glasgow, Scotland. Joseph Ninian Yule has been mistakenly taken as the birth parents of Joe Jr. (aka, "Mickey Rooney"), simply because of Rooney's interest in the Family and Ancestory of Joseph Ninian Yule, who was close friends with my Great Uncle John Emery Ewell, my Grandfather's brother. Nell Carter, who was Mickey's birth mother, was married to Joseph Scott Ewell, Sr., who was born in Scotland on April 30, 1894. Nell Carter and her parents were from Kansas City, Kansas, where she was born. Joseph Scott Sr., and Nell Carter had three children, Joe Jr. (also known as Mickey Rooney), John, and Joseph Scott Jr. When Nell Carter and Joseph Scott Ewell, Sr., separated in 1924, which lead to their nasty divorce in 1926, Nell Carter grasped ahold of Joe Jr. (aka, "Mickey Rooney"), and took him to California, where she attempted to find him small-time acting jobs. Joe Jr's., real breakthrough came when he landed the part of Mickey MaGuire at FOX studios. He adopted the name "Mickey" from his role, and has kept the name ever since. Mickey's two brothers, John and Joseph Scott Jr., went their own ways with their father Joseph Scott Senior. In 1940, Joseph Scott Ewell (or Yule) remarried, marrying a woman by the name of Nobie Rae Whitaker, whom he had been dating for some time. Mickey and Nobie Rae immediately became close friends, even as Mickey and his father Joseph Scott Sr., always maintained a close relationship, even after his father's nasty divorce from his mother in 1926. Nobie Rae died in 1983. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Now, as for your Grandfather, Thomas Yule, most probably he is the brother of Joseph Ninian Yule, otherwise I don't see a connection. On our side of the Family, I don't see any connection between your father and either Fred Dana Ewell or his son Joseph Scott Sr., Ewell. If you will provide me with more information, such as siblings and cousins, I might be abled to trace your Grandfather. In case you are curious about Mickey Rooney's birth name, it was not "Yule" but "Ewell", that you will find on his birth certificate! If you are within five cousins from Mickey, even by adoption, you may contact Mickey Rooney yourself, explain who you are, and he will talk to you. Mickey, John, and Joseph Scott Jr., were very big into geneology. On our side of the Family, we have been gradually trying to unite the descendants of Franklin Ewell, from both wives, back into one family again. This is very difficult, but there has been much progress. Sincerely, Joe
