EARLY N.C. DABBS RECORDS
Posted by: Bobbie Ledbetter (ID *****5117) Date: March 12, 2008 at 14:07:32

I found a reference of JOHN DABB and ROGER DIBBBS & ANNE DIBBS in a set of ten books that I own, entitled EARLY RECORDS OF NORTH CAROLINA, Abstracted by Dr. Stephen E. Bradley, Jr. The items are found in the following books and are as follows:

VOLUME I: Probates, Administrations, Inventories, 1753 - 1790,

Page 31, No. 44 (Currituck County)
List of Administrations returned 12 Dec. 1754 by Shergold Clk.

Dec'd-----------------------------Admin.
ROGER DIBBS---------------------ANNE DIBBS

VOLUME II, Wills, Administrations, Inventories, Deeds, 1677 - 1790,

Page 20, No. 145 - (123) (Found, I believe, in Albemarle County, and the date seems to be in 1699/1700.)
JNO. DABB inventory. Signed by JAMES TUKE and JAMES HUNTER.

(NOTE: I have noticed in a number of the early records the DABBS name is spelled a number of ways, including DOBBS. I can not recall having seen the name spelled DIBBS, but spelling, however, was not the strong suit of people in the colonial days. I have seen names and words from the early records spelled in many weird ways.)

The early date found in the record above about JOHN DABB would indicate it COULD be referring to JOHN DABB/S that had been from England to Virginia to Maryland, and back to Virginia, then over to North Carolina where he may have died, or perhaps his son, JOHN. I have yet to find a will or estate records on JOHN DABBS. I would like to find more concerning the above mentioned JOHN DABB's probate. Does anyone out there have any ideas as to where his other probate records could be located? I do know a person who owned land in several areas needed to have wills or probate records in each of those said areas.
