Lavina Johnson has been a mysterious lady in our family. No one has been able to positively prove who her parents were. We find Lavina married in the 1860 census in Carthage PO, Leake County, Mississippi as Lavenia age 17 years born Alabama. In the 1880 census in Precinct 1, Eastland County, Texas, Lavenia is now 38 years old born Alabama, along with her parents. In the 1900 census Eastland Co., TX Lavina is 58 years old, a widow, born Alabama, father Alabama and mother Georgia. In 1910 Eastland Co., TX Lavina Dabbs is 68 years old born Alabama, father Georgia and mother Georgia. In 1920 in same place, Lavina is 78 years old born Alabama, parents in Georgia. With this information I assumed Lavina was the daughter of Ashfield Johnson. With information given on census records it was a match to Ashley Johnson's daughter Lavina born the same year and place. Though the match seemed correct the idea of her siblings marrying, raising their families, and dying there, and her going to Mississippi to marry just put a large question mark on my idea. I didn't keep this information to myself but told a couple of other researchers and they seemed to think it was a good match. A few months later another Johnson researcher got in touch with me and she had a Lavina Johnson, daughter of Thomas Johnson and Mary who was born in Alabama at the same year as Lavina who married T. L. Dabbs. This Johnson family was in Winston County, Mississippi who traveled to Attala where Lavina and TL were married and where their first son was born. TL and Lavina continued on to Leake County and the last record found on Thomas and his second wife Tamar is in the 1880 census in Attala County, Mississippi. I've been able to trace 'a Thomas Johnson' back to Indian Land in Alabama with one child in the family.
Hopefully there are still some other Johnson researchers connected with the Dabbs family out there who may be able to shed some more light on this mysterious lady and her ancestry.
