William THOMSON (1832-1886)

My Great Grandfather, William Thomson was born Belfast, lived in Glasgow and married there in 1863, and the family immigrated to Australia in 1865.

William was one of the founders of a Volunteer Force of the Volunteer Rifles Brigade of Queensland, in the town of Maryborough, Queensland, Australia.

When he died in 1886, he was given full military funeral, and held the rank of Sergeant. And the local paper discribed him a Crimean veteran. And this is all the information that I have.

I assume that he enlisted into one of the Scottish Units at Glasgow between the age of 18-21.

His parents were James & Esther THOMSON.

Can anyone help me?
