Records of dead and wounded

Have just come across this board. I am trying to find out what happened to a man named Jonathan Davidson born 1821 at Canongate, Edinburgh, son of Robert Davidson and Janet Ferguson. Jonathan was married in 1841 to Janet or Jessie Abernethy of Stromness, Orkney. They had at least one son William Abernethy Davidson born 1842. In year 1851 Jonathan was a private in the 93rd Highland Regiment enumerated at Edinburgh Castle barracks- his wife and son were living elsewhere in Edinburgh with relatives. After this I cannot find Jonathan ever again anywhere, and not his wife either, although a Janet Davidson appears in a lunatic asylum in Edinburgh in year 1861 who might be her.

In reading today about the 93rd Regiment I realized they eventually left Scotland and went to fight in the Crimean War, and after that in India at the great mutiny.

My question is- are there service records for the members of the 93rd Highland Regiment and/or death records? I have a hunch Jonathan may have been killed somewhere and I would like to find out where and when.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Nora
