CHAPMAN, Scotch-Irish Jacob Chapman, ancestor of the Nicholas County family of that name, settled on Little Mountain about the year 1813. He patented several tracts of land in the county. His sons were JACOB C. CHAPMAN and ANDREW L. CHAPMAN. The too, were large land holders. Jacob C. Chapman had a son JACOB CHAPMAN who married Annie Groves, daugter of John W. Groves. He joined the Methodist Conference and rose to prominence as a minster. Andrew L. Chapman settled in Kentucky District. He was the father of WILLIAM J. CHAPMAN, JOHN A. CHAPMAN and GEORGE D. CHAPMAN. JOHN WESLEY CHAPMAN and ANDREW J. CHAPMAN were prominent members of this family. BENTON CHAPMAN and LEONARD CHAPMAN were sons of John Wesley Chapman. MALINDA CHAPMAN, a daughter of John Wesley Chapman, married Gordon G. Duff. BLAINE CHAPMAN, son of Leonard, is a prominent busines man in Summersville. H.W. CHAPMAN, son of Andrew L. Chapman, was a well known farmer of Kentucky District, but moved to Summersville and spent his life there. I neglected to copy the following page, sorry.
