John & Katherine Cairns

I am intrigued to know how John and Katherine Cairns came to be in Gleichen, not far from Calgary. John was born in about 1844, possibly in Ireland. In 1910, when their son Arthur died in Calgary at the age of 32, no mention is made of John, who was either dead or had come (back) to Ireland. Katherine went to the funeral of her son, as did, I believe, one of Arthur's brothers. His name might have been Andy.

Arthur, incidentally was married to Dorothea O'Neill in Dublin, but by the time their third daughter was born in 1906 he was in Gleichen working as a chicken farmer. When he died he was a hospital porter in Calgary, so he never went back to his wife.

Any information gratefully received.
