William J. "Skip" Cairns of Schaumburg Prayers for William J. "Skip" "The Rosary Man" Cairns, 76, will be said at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Road (three blocks south of Biesterfield Road), Elk Grove Village, proceeding to St. Matthew Church, 1001 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg, for a Mass celebrating his life at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 4, at the funeral home. Born in Chicago, he died Friday, June 1, 2007, at home with his loving family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. When Skip retired, he really enjoyed making rosaries. He would leave them in the back of the chapel at Alexian Brothers, sent them to homeless missions in the Bronx, sent many to soldiers serving in Iraq, and with special attention to those in need such as cancer patients or people going through trauma. He raised his children with love of God, country and family. The care and comfort of his family was very important to him, with a strong work ethic in many different endeavors such as truck driver, Patsy's Corner Restaurant and CV Aluminum. His great sense of humor was enjoyed by all. Don't ever look down. He was the beloved husband for 56 years of Joyce (nee Quesnell); loving father of Linda (Will) Vitols, Peggy Garcianetti, Bill (Gloria) Cairns, Jeanne (Bill) Kulinski, Michael (Linda) Cairns and Marianne (Tim) Czischki; dear brother of Rosemary (the late Ray) Prestopic, Lillian (the late James) McDonald, Chuck (Julia) Cairns, Dennis (Sharon) Gribbens and the late Emmett (Shirley) Gribbens; the best grandpa in the world to Erik, Vanessa, Rebecca, Kimberley, Kristie, Keri, Tina, Lisa, Billy, Kalene, Kellie, Kathryn, Brittany, Amanda and Corrin; great-grandfather of eight; and uncle of many loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. For information, 847-640-0566 or www.grovememorialchapel.com.
