I noticed there is a lot of interest in Samuel Jordan Cabell. I have just been reading 'The Amherst County Story' by Alfred Percy. During the revolutionary war,in January 1776, Amherst, VA, was ordered to produce a company of expert riflemen They had completed training by 25 March 1776. As Colonel William Cabell was in Williamsburg with the Committee of Safety, his eldest son, Samuel Jordan Cabell, was told to leave his university studies at William and Mary and return to Amherst to take charge of the company. They were assigned to the 6th Virginia Regiment. The company was later part of Morgan's Rangers who helped bring about victory at Saratoga, the pivotal battle of the war. Samuel was promoted to Major. Samuel, as a major, was with the 14th VA regiment at Valley Forge. J. Marie Bassett J. Marie Bassett
