Marine, I have actually seen your post several times and moved on since I am looking for Cabe's not McCabe's but today for some reason I paused longer and started to look through my notes. William McCabe struck a bell today. In the 1850 Census of Mulberry, William J McCabe in a 6 year old boy living with the family of James and Lydia Ivey. He is listed after all of their children and his ages falls in-between the ages of the other children. So I don't think he would be Lydia son from a previous marriage. It is likely however that he is somehow related to these Iveys. The Iveys had lived in Arkansas from at least 1841 and William is shown as born in Arkansas.
I would suspect the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census for William J McCabe could shed more light on this.
