Hello... a preliminary look in the roster of Illinois volunteers for the Black Hawk War did not reveal the surname "Stalnaker." All this suggests is that perhaps Andrew Stalnaker did not formally enroll in the state of Illinois, in a company organized by the state of Illinois. Presuming that Andrew lived in 1832, and was of age to serve in the militia, etc. in 1832, it may be possible that he served while living in or travelling through another state or territory. It may be possible that, although living in western Virginia, he served in the Regular Army at some point during the Black Hawk War. Perhaps establishing his time of residency in Randolph County may serve as a clue. Perhaps local newspapers or obituaries may shed more light on the origins of the "nickname." Good luck... and do let us know what you uncover! Bob Braun. Notify Administrator about this message?
