From your other reply it would seem, not surprisingly, that your BABCOCKS are from one of the Kingston area lines. In a 1999 article in OGS Families, Raymond Babcock attempted to sort out the families of the two local Benjamin BABCOCKS. One born c1754 died in 1829 and the other died in 1842/43. Both are associated with Kingston, but the former seems to have gone to Ernestown Tp and the latter to Camden Tp at some point. I mention this only because the first Benjamin (d 1829) had a son Peter born c1794. There is always the possibility that your later Peter was descended from this family as they had a history of using the name 'Peter'. Some of the Kingston area BABCOCKS were involved in the amazing defense of the Blockhouse in Bergen Co NJ in 1780 where a small group of Loyalists defended it against much greater odds. Also, for what it's worth, the last surviving World War 1 Canadian Vet is a BABCOCK and apparently with roots in the Kingston area, so likely descends from one of the early area BABCOCKS.
