The Catalog of auction sale #PEARL-2095 at Christie's, NY, on 18 January 2008 as item 590 pictures a fine double portrait c.1837 of Job Hedges Babcock & Mary Ann Hall Babcock of Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York. The couple were married on 10 June 1837 & it is likely that this portrait was painted to commemorate their marriage. This portrait should be made known to the Babcock family. I am scanning it in case any of the descendants might like a copy, either by email or by postal mail. Someone in the family ought to have it--it is too good to be missed by them. It may not have extensive genealogy value, but it certainly does have a whole lot of family and artistic value. There is also a paragraph of some family information in the caption that accompanies the portrait. My email address can be found by clicking on my underlined name above. Please respond by emailing me directly and not by posting a reply on this genforum site, which I might not see. If it were a portrait of a Pease family couple, I'd certainly hope someone would do the same for me. Bill Pease Lancaster, PA Notify Administrator about this message?
