Susan, The suicide of Platt D Babbitt was reported in the Lockport Daily Journal on August 22, 1879 and in the Niagara Falls Gazette on August 27, 1879. He was buried in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati Sec: 35 Lot: 34 in the Rule family plot. No marker has been found. Babbitt's medical condition (fainting, dizzyness, etc) and death may have due to his inhalation of mercury vapor that was used in the development of daguerreotype images. Babbitt held, for a time, the concession on Niagara Falls tourist images and is remembered in photographic history for his image of Joseph Avery clinging to a log and who eventually was swept over the Falls. I have a little more information on his life and hold a few of his glass stereoview images as well as a whole plate daguerreotype. Be glad to share with you what I have <Richard> Notify Administrator about this message?
