winfrey, john, va. line, wf. elisabeth, W6543. soldier married miss elisabeth owen (marriage bond signed by thomas owen and soldier on 2 jan. 1785 in henrico, va.), soldier and widow were married 3 jan. 1785 and soldier died in june 1830. widow applied 25 dec 1841 in powhatan co., va. age 77. soldier was the son of valentine winfrey of chesterfield co., va., and soldier's brothers; major winfrey, reuben winfrey and henry winfrey were referred to, soldier lived in chesterfield co. va at enlistment and he lived there till 1800 then moved to powhatan co.,va. where he died in 1830, widow died 13 aug 1843 in powhatan co., va., leaving 6 children whose names were not given, a robert adkins of powhatan was admin of widow estate in powhatan. the rev. john winfrey also had a cousin named john winfrey who also lived in chesterfield co., va. near the close of the rev. war. in 842 soldier's former s-i-l mrs. frances fendly age 68 made aff'dt in chesterfield co., va. and stated her first husband was soldier's bro. major winfrey to whom she married about 1794 or 95 and the said major winfrey had also srv in the rev. army, in 1841 william winfrie (as he signed) was age 41 and living in chesterfield co., va. in 1842 richard I. owen age 45 lived in powhatan co., va (their kinship to soldier's family was not given), family data shown was; woodson winfree, son of john and elisabth winfree was born 3 may 1789, anmoriah winfree born 3 dec 1792, saroah winfree born 16 dec 1775 and nancy winfree born 20 march, 1777

he enlisted and also srv as a sub for his father, in 195 soldied moved to lincoln co., ky for 2 years then moved to green river in adair co., ky where he lived there when he applied 4 sept. 1832.. soldier's bro. henry winfrey was of adair co., ky in 1832. soldier died about 1841 leaving a widow whose named is not given. in 1851 sims a. winfrey and
samuel gowdy both living in the state of ky, were said to heirs of the deceased soldier, but relationship to soldier not given/
