Lookup Jethro BROWN

Are on-line rosters as available for this war as the revolutionary or Civil Wars, or are they more difficult to come by?

If you have the means, please lookup Jethro BROWN. He was born about 1727, probably in Stonington, CT. About the time that he was married, he moved to Keene, NH. He moved to VT about 1787. The entry of interest in "The History of Marlborough Vermont" says

"He was in the French War of 1756, and served both as a Marine on board of a war vessel or Privateer, and as a solider upon scouts."

What does the entry mean? Can I assume that he fought for the British? I am less familiar with this war than earlier ones.
