Capt Hoffman 1709-1797 PA Provincial Forces

Hello,

I'm trying to locate my 6th great grandfather. His name was John Peter Hoffman. Born 1709, Germany- Immigrated 1739, died 1797-Dauphin County, Pa. Many of the sources that i've found say that he was a Capt. in the Pennsylvania Provincial Forces. I have not yet found his name on a muster roll. How can I verify this information? Could someone please help me? I've already turned to the PA State Archives for help, with no success in finding anything.
