Sorry I can't answer your question, but I am also looking for my ancestor John Still, who may have been in the British Service and defected during the French and Indian War. The story, from a later County history book, is that he was "impressed" into the British service when 14 years old, and defected. Could have been a colonial recruit fighting for the British, so not sure. Some hazy oral history in the family says he was in the British navy, but "jumped ship." He later ended up in Surry, NH in 1769, and fought in the American Revolution.

Should I find out how to research this better, I will share my methods. We may have to contact British military archives, but it may be difficult for John Still as he was an ordinary soldier (or maybe cabin boy). It's intriguing, isn't it?
